XU-M: Unmanned utility aircraft-Marine type Being Developed by the Aircraft Division Demonstration Flight at the Drone Summit
On September 2, 2022, a demonstration flight of the XU-M, an experimental unmanned / utility aircraft-marine type being developed by the Aircraft Division took place at sea near Port Island’s Shiosai Park in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The demonstration was part of the 1st Drone Summit (hosted by the Cabinet Secretariat and Hyogo Prefecture), and was open to the media and relevant parties.
The XU-M is an amphibian in development to advance research concerning the sensing and control of amphibians, as well as to build up remote operation experience and various ocean-related data.
During the demonstration flight, which lasted approximately four minutes, the amphibian performed manual takeoff and landing on water and automatically controlled figure-8 turns.
The first-ever Drone Summit was covered by many media outlets, and the demonstration flight generated a significant amount of buzz.
