Household waste is collected by refuse compactors before being processed as appropriate at waste treatment facilities (energy recovery facilities and recycling centers).
A refuse transfer station system is a facility for the reshipment of waste that is located halfway between the collection site and the waste treatment facility. At these facilities, waste is reloaded into large vehicles for efficient transport to waste treatment facilities.
