August 10, 2022

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture, President Isogawa Tatsuyuki) is pleased to announce that it has decided and executed an investment in WOTA CORP. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director Mr. Yosuke Maeda, hereinafter referred to as "WOTA").

WOTA is a Japanese start-up company whose raison d'être is to "understand water problems from a structural perspective and take on the challenge of solving them." WOTA is a Japanese startup company that aims to solve various problems caused by the uneven distribution, depletion, and pollution of water resources on the earth. We are developing "autonomous water treatment control technology" and "small-scale distributed water circulation system."
With this investment as a starting point, we aim to realize our Long-term vision of becoming a value co-creation company that responds to global social needs and contributes to the advancement of urban, transportation, and environmental infrastructure. By combining water circulation systems with the track record and reliability that we have cultivated over many years in the fluid business, we are able to resolve various issues faced by water and sewage infrastructure in Japan (particularly in depopulated areas) and in regions with poor water resources overseas. I aim for it.

1. Intent of investment

While the concentration of population in urban areas is accelerating around the world, in rural areas, due to worsening finances and a decrease in users due to population outflow, water and sewage infrastructure is aging and it is becoming difficult to maintain the conventional quality of operation. It's coming. Furthermore, because water resources are unevenly distributed in relation to the population distribution, many people are exposed to "water stress".
Against this background, we believe that in addition to the current large-scale, centralized infrastructure centered on urban, water and sewage infrastructure suitable for areas with low population density is necessary. We decided to make this investment because we sympathize with WOTA's vision of proposing and disseminating new water and sewage infrastructure that embodies envrionmental considerations through recycling.

2. Main initiatives planned for the future

In Japan, we will work with WOTA to implement a small-scale decentralized treatment system in accordance with population density, targeting areas where it is difficult to continue to maintain and manage water and sewage infrastructure using the current large-scale centralized treatment system.
We also aim to implement this system in other countries where water resources are scarce, and to spread this infrastructure system globally so that limited water resources can be used effectively.
In addition, in the future, we would like to contribute to solving various problems by redefining the infrastructure for daily life according to population density, developing new infrastructure that takes advantage of our diverse technologies, and contributing to its widespread use.
