BUILT-IN DD Motor

Succeeded in Developing a Compact, High-efficiency Motor of the World's Highest Class

Participated in joint research with JAXA Space Exploration Innovation Hub and started efforts towards commercialization

February 19, 2019

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture, President and CEO: Isogawa Tatsuyuki) has announced that it will participate in the Space Exploration Innovation Hub *1 of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (hereinafter referred to as JAXA), and will support universities and other organizations. As a result of our joint research with the company, we succeeded in developing the world's highest class compact high-efficiency motor and produced a prototype.
Although this research will conclude in March 2019, we will apply the knowledge gained through this research to terrestrial applications and begin full-scale efforts toward commercialization in the general industrial field.

In the joint research, our company, a motor manufacturer, has materialized the results of the research by mainly manufacturing taking part in structural design, assembly, and performance testing of prototypes that minimize energy loss and take advantage of the characteristics of the materials.
During this activity period, we delivered a prototype of a high-speed motor for vacuum applications equipped with the "HIES Core "*2 from Yoshikawa Industry Corporation (Kitakyushu City), which was adopted in the joint research.

Our company specializes in the production of custom-made high-precision motors, and these motors maintain a high share of the market as power sources for hard disk inspection equipment. In the future, we will develop new areas where we can take advantage of the "high efficiency" and "low heat generation" results of this joint research, narrow down our targets, and further refine our skills. We aim to expand our business by starting to accept maids.

  1. *1 The Space Exploration Innovation Hub, with support from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), has built an organization that brings together human resources and knowledge from various fields, and is implementing unprecedented new systems and initiatives. We are promoting the development and establishment of research related to space exploration throughout JAXA.
  2. *2 "HIES Core" is a high-speed, high-efficiency core that is mass-produced by specially laminating ultra-thin electromagnetic steel sheets developed by Yoshikawa Kogyo Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Vector Magnetic Properties Technology Research Institute and Nippon Metals Co., Ltd.
