ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture; President and CEO: Isogawa Tatsuyuki) has developed a new automatic wire processors, the mini-FAKRA compatible coaxial cable processing machine "CMM10," and will begin selling it from August 1, 2025.
The "CMM10" is a processing machine that is unique in that it can fully automatically perform processes such as "stripping," "braiding," "crimping the inner and outer conductor terminals," and even "quality inspection" on the ends of coaxial cable wires used in "high-speed communication harnesses," etc. In the case of standard specification, single-end processing, this series of operations can be completed in just 4.5 seconds.

Background of development

In recent years, the automotive market has seen an acceleration in technological development in response to CASE (connected, autonomous driving, sharing, and electrification (EV)). In the fields of autonomous driving and connected cars, the number of in-vehicle cameras required for preventive safety functions has increased, infotainment displays that combine information provision and entertainment experiences have been installed, and navigation systems have evolved, requiring harnesses that transmit video and image data at higher speeds and with larger capacities. Processing "high-speed communication harnesses" that meet these needs, which consist of coaxial cables * and mini-FAKRA connectors, etc., is highly challenging, making automation and mechanization difficult, and until now it has been necessary to use dedicated processing machines for each process.

Demand for high-speed communication harnesses is expected to continue to grow, and manufacturers have expressed high expectations for a new processing machine that combines high processing quality with speedy processing capabilities to help improve productivity.

  • * A coaxial cable is a cable used for high-speed communications, etc. It consists of multiple layers: a core wire that transmits electrical signals is wrapped in a resin insulator, a metal mesh shield (outer conductor) on the outside to prevent signal leakage and external noise, and a resin cover for overall protection.

What is mini-FAKRA?

FAKRA (Fachkreis Automobile) is a coaxial connector that has been standardized in the automotive industry and is widely used in in-vehicle communication systems, antenna connections, and autonomous driving technology. mini-FAKRA is an even smaller coaxial connector that supports high frequencies.

    • Crimping machine parts can be replaced, and 30/40mm stroke switching is also possible.
