Delivered the Eighth US-2 STOL Search and Rescue Amphibian to the Ministry of Defense’s Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force
On May 24, 2022, we delivered the eighth US-2 STOL Search and Rescue Amphibian to the Ministry of Defense’s Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The US-2 is the world’s only amphibian aircraft capable of taking off from and landing on the open sea amid waves that are up to three meters tall.
It is operated by the Ministry of Defense’s Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force for the purpose of rescuing people in the event of maritime accidents. Including its predecessor, the US-1, it boasts over 1,000 rescue missions.
The eighth aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight on April 18, and after several flight tests, flew to Iwakuni Air Base (Yamaguchi Prefecture) on May 24 under the close supervision of company employees who were involved in the aircraft’s manufacture.
The aircraft will be deployed to the 71st Corps of the 31st Group for duty at Iwakuni Air Base.
Additionally, the Konan Plant is currently manufacturing the ninth aircraft, the order for which was received in March 2022.
