ShinMaywa has a long history of providing special-purpose trucks to Southeast Asia. We have shipped dump trucks, garbage trucks, detachable container systems, sewer cleaning trucks and other special vehicles in conjunction with official development assistance provided to Southeast Asian countries. In more recent years, this has switched to orders from local areas, and we are also selling hoist kits for dump trucks in many different sizes. Our trademarked name Tentsuki has become a synonym for dump truck hoist there.
In 1955, ShinMaywa received an order for 50 dump trucks from Burma (now Myanmar). That was the largest order we had ever received, even including orders from within Japan. In 1980, we opened a sales office in Singapore, and then in 1988, we constructed a production plant for dump truck hoists in Thailand. With bases closer to our end users, we are able to better assess needs and fine tune our products. In 2010, we shipped 100 garbage and detachable container system to Bangladesh along with 95 containers for the detachable trucks. That was the very first case of the newly established type of governmental aid projects, aimed for improvement of environment.
