US-2 type rescue STOL Flying Boat No. 8 delivered to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Ministry of Defense

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture, President and CEO Isogawa Tatsuyuki) announced on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, that US-2 search and rescue amphibian (hereinafter referred to as US-2) No. 8 will be delivered to the Ministry of Defense. Delivered to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The US-2 is the only amphibious aircraft in the world that can take off and land in the open ocean with wave heights of 3 meters, and is operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force of the Ministry of Defense for the purpose of rescue in the event of a maritime accident.
Unit 8 successfully made its first flight on April 18th (Monday), and after undergoing multiple flight tests, it was handed over to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force at the Konan Factory Aircraft Division on May 24th.
From now on, it will be deployed to the 71st Squadron, 31st Air Group, and will operate at Iwakuni Air Base.
Currently, the Konan factory has begun manufacturing the No. 9 machine, which was ordered in March 2022.
