US-2 type search and rescue amphibian No. 8 delivered to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Ministry of Defense

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture; President: Isogawa Tatsuyuki) delivered the eighth US-2 search and rescue amphibian (hereinafter, US-2) to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force of the Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
The US-2 is the only amphibious aircraft in the world that can take off and land in the open ocean with wave heights of 3 meters, and is operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force of the Ministry of Defense for the purpose of rescue in the event of a maritime accident.
No. 8 successfully completed its first flight on Monday, April 18, and after multiple flight tests, it was delivered to the Maritime Self-Defense Force on May 24 at Aircraft Division Konan Plant.
From now on, it will be deployed to the 71st Squadron, 31st Air Group, and will operate at Iwakuni Air Base.
Currently, the Konan factory has begun manufacturing the No. 9 machine, which was ordered in March 2022.
