ShinMaywa INSIGHT
Achieving Practical Applications of the Fixed-Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle XU-S : (1)
November 06, 2019
Aircraft Division Research and Development
First demonstration experiment conducted in Niigata City
We would like to introduce an example of the R&D being undertaken by ShinMaywa Industries. In the Aircraft Division, we are currently developing a high-performance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) called the XU-S (Experimental Unmanned/Utility aircraft by ShinMaywa) that can be applied to a wide range of fields, such as monitoring, surveillance, and communication. We are aiming for practical applications and are continuing our research and development efforts towards this goal.
The XU-S is still in the research and prototype stage. As one of the few manufacturers of completed aircraft in Japan, we are leveraging our accumulated expertise in aircraft design to focus on conducting research into aircraft, particularly with regard to flight performance and payload capacity.
On October 9, 2019 (Wed), in collaboration with Niigata City (Niigata Prefecture), we conducted a flight test in the city and achieved autonomous flight for over an hour at an altitude of 100 m within visual line of sight (VLOS)
We have uploaded the footage of the flight test to YouTube!
