The Technical Training Center* of our company provides thorough training to learn basic skills, such as welding methods and how to use a file, and we have also participated in the "National Skills Competition." In the training period before participating in the national competition, the trainees intently try to improve their skills, such as actively learning skills in the practical training during the day, and voluntarily holding study sessions in the evening.
After he joined the company, his job was to weld various types of products, which is where he gained his experience. "I had some tough times back when I started, because we had to learn all the tasks, such as adjustment of the machines, etc. But I believe, that my level of skill and experience improved through what I learned on my own. " Currently, Mr. Ichino is assigned to the manufacturing of products in another business department, and all the specifications are different than what he is familiar with so he mentioned that "I carefully read the drawings first, no matter what the product is. Then, I take my time to study what the appropriate timing is to perform what task, and start the actual work." He says he can handle the work based on the experience and knowledge he has gained in the past. The reliable skills and abundant experience gained since he attended the Technical Training Center is the greatest advantage of Mr. Ichino.
However, he said that is not enough to produce good products. "Products are honest. Because the attitude and mind of the creator appears in the quality of the product. It is necessary to honestly deal with each product." He himself has had unsuccessful experiences caused by carelessness. It was when he was performing multi-layer welding of a thick plate structure. He carelessly thought it was simple work however, defects were found internally in an ultrasonic inspection after the welding was completed, and he had to redo the work. He realized that some sort of "defect" will appear in a product if the mind of the creator is not totally concentrating on the product, regardless of whether the creator has skill and experience. Even today after his long career path, encounters with products is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. "Although mechanization has progressed in recent years, I want to make each product with full concentration as a craftsman."
