Sponsoring a new initiative aimed at safety at sea

April 19, 2024

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture, President Isogawa Tatsuyuki) sponsored an event held on April 4 (Thursday) at Hayama Marina (Miura County, Kanagawa Prefecture) to commemorate the release of the Helly Hansen model of the "COCOHELI MARINE" search support service for marine sports. The fixed-wing unmanned Amphibian "XU-M (Experimental Unmanned / Utility aircraft - Marine type)" developed by our company was introduced at the event.

Head Office COCOHELI MARINE is a search support service that uses GPS and direct communication functions to transmit location information from the sea and request assistance in the event a search is necessary. ( Head Office: Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka, President: Kazufusa Kuga, hereinafter referred to as AUTHENTIC).
Since 2016, AUTHENTIC has released the mountain distress response system "COCOHELI," which has been highly regarded for its ability to significantly reduce search time by locating the transmitter in case of "what if" situations of member climbers, and has become a service with over 150,000 members.

This event was held at Hayama Marina, known as the birthplace of yachting in Japan, to unveil "COCOHELI MARINE," which bears the tag of GOLDWIN INC.'s (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takao Watanabe) marine sportswear brand "Helly Hansen." The event was held with the aim of allowing people to enjoy marine leisure activities in safety.

In recent years, our Aircraft Division has been focusing on the development of unmanned aircraft that apply the technology we have cultivated over many years as the prime manufacturer of the "US-2" amphibian operated by the Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the "XU-M" on which we recently conducted a demonstration flight is one of these aircraft. The aircraft is being developed to promote research related to sensing and control of amphibians, to accumulate remote operation results and various ocean-related data, and we believe that its characteristics can be utilized in the "COCOHELI MARINE" service for maritime search and initial rescue support (such as transporting life jackets), We are considering collaboration with COCOHELI MARINE.

The "XU-M," which can take off and land on seawater, is an aircraft with a wide range of possibilities. We will continue to explore opportunities to make effective use of this aircraft from a broad perspective, while estimating future collaborations with COCOHELI MARINE, which can take advantage of its characteristics.
