ShinMaywa Develops New Automatic Wire Terminating Machine Model for Consumer Products and Automotive Markets

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. (President & CEO: Tatsuyuki Isogawa) announced today the development of the THR202C automatic wire terminating machine, its latest offering in a series of machines that perform a broad range of wire processes for wire harnesses, including measuring, cutting, and crimping. The THR202C terminates one end by tinning and the other by crimping. Its release is scheduled for mid-May.
Recently, the total demand for wire harnesses has been expanding globally, as markets for consumer products, such as home appliances and audio and visual equipment, continue to grow in emerging countries and demand rises in the European, U.S., and Chinese automotive markets.
In the automotive markets, while the vehicles themselves are becoming electrified, the number of wire harnesses used in a single vehicle is increasing due to progress in the electrification of components installed in vehicles, partly because electronic circuit-based control devices for cameras and sensors (needed for preventive safety functions) have recently become standard equipment on vehicles.
Against this backdrop, the need has arisen for automatic wire terminating machines to improve their performance so that they can carry out high quality processes for wires used in precision instruments and simultaneously achieve high processing capability.
Automatic Wire Terminating Machine "THR202C"
With the consumer goods and onboard electronics markets in mind, the THR202C has been developed specifically to tin one end of a wire and crimp the other after length measurement and cutting. Equipped with a newly developed "twisting and tinning unit" which incorporates a rotary twisting mechanism, the machine achieves dramatic improvement in both processing capability and the quality of tin finishing.
To enable higher processing capability, tact time has been reduced by adopting the "rotary twisting method," which holds the ends of wires and rotates them, and by improving the processed wire discharge mechanism with the result that the maximum processing capability has been raised to 3,000 pcs per hour (a 25% increase over the company's current model).
Meanwhile, the quality of tin finishing has been dramatically improved by using high-precision servo control to ensure that wires approach the tinning tank almost completely perpendicularly.
ShinMaywa will continue to seek higher productivity and better after-sales services by developing new technologies and improving the quality of its machines in order to increase its penetration of the consumer products market just as it has in the automotive market.
